welcome

Boston is a place where east coast grit meets intellectual academia,
where world renowned institutes of science and technology meet DIY art,
where the mass appeal of top 40 billboard and dance drives our resistance movement underground,
where a strong community thrives in the fertile sewers beneath the streets.

Welcome to Vermin Street. We are Boston's culture of experiment.

Rising Smoke of the Hobo Kings - Smotin at the Water

SmotinAtTheWater

1. 900 Miles
2. 900 Miles (Sub Swara Remix)
3. 900 Miles (Pumpkin Remix)
4. 900 Miles (Zander Remix)
5. Linin Track

Rising Smoke of the Hobo Kings is a collaboration of Hobotech and Haj.
Haj is a founding member of Sub Swara, who, as an event, were pioneering in bringing Bass Music to NYC. He's also been involved with numerous lauded, cutting edge projects, including Nyxxys with Hannah Thiem of Copal and Freek Factory with vocalist, Blacklight.
Hobotech is the creation of Jon Margulies. His aesthetic is the sound of boxcar funk, deisel dub and badass bluegrass crunk. Hobotech has played festivals across the country, including Coachella alongside Haj, SxSW and Burning Man. Jon is one of the world's leading experts on Ableton Live, having authored multiple books and presented workshops around the US, including regular gigs at Dubspot and NYU.
The A-side of this release is a homesick traveler's bittersweet tale, featuring Blacklight on vocals and Hannah Thiem on violin. Introspective melodies are coupled with subtle glitches to create a grinding tune that is tense, soothing and sexy.
The release features a deep and bass heavy remix by Sub Swara; a smooth Downtempo House/Midtemp Funk version by Pumpkin (of Pocket Underground and The Wandering Marrionettes); and a third remix by Zander (aka Traveler) with glitchy bass filtering and sugary sweet melodies.
The B side is a funkified cover of an old Ledbelly tune, Linin Track. Again, featuring Blacklight on vocals, this time with an alto laid down over bass driven beat to inspire a hands-in-the-air call-to-arms on the dancefloor.

Vinyl Blight - Mission

Mission

1. Vinyl Blight ft Bongo Chilli - Mission
2. Vinyl Blight ft Bongo Chilli - Mission (Liquid Stranger Remix)
3. Vinyl Blight ft Bongo Chilli - Mission (Process Rebel Remix)
4. MC Zulu - Sacrament (Vinyl Blight Remix)

Boston's Vinyl Blight grew up on a steady diet of Ragga Jungle. And though his love of mashed-up Amens and hard hitting sub bass has never died, his intrigue by new techniques and distaste for homogenity has led to a fusing of new and old. A DJ with over 10 years experience, he has seen the Ragga sound through many phases: Jungle, Dancehall, Breakcore, Dubstep, GlitchHop, Bashment... and his style would now be best described as the love child of an orgy of those genres.
As the brains behind Vermin Street, Boston's premiere Bass Music label, Vinyl Blight has been responsible for seeing the first releases of many great artists, including Tremourz, NastyNasty, +verb, Jupit3r, Bobby Tank, and the Zebbler Encanti Experience.
Vinyl Blight has had multiple releases on his Vermin Street imprint, along with remixes for Kush Arora on the Dread Bass Chronicles Remixed, and Mochipet on Master P on Atari Transformed.
The title track of this release, Mission, features Bongo Chilli flowing over crescendos of crunchy Dancehall riddims and undulating wobble basslines. Remixes include Liquid Stranger's heavy all-out dancefloor Dubstep version and Process Rebel's upbeat Drum and Bass frenzy.
The B side of this release is a Vinyl Blight remix of the MC Zulu track "Sacrament." The tune comes heavy with glitchy mid-range basslines and mashed-up breaks laid over a steady driving Hip Hop beat.

Hobotech - O.K., Alright

Hobotech is the creation of Producer/DJ Jon Margulies. Since it’s fireside conception in 2007, Hobotech has steadily grown in popularity. Since the original NYC events that featured a collective of talent including ATOM, FreeBassBK and Hobotrail, Jon’s recent schedule has included an appearance at Coachella, an opening set for Bassnectar with collaborator Haj (Sub Swara), and shows which have found him sharing the stage with luminaries of bass music including ill.Gates, David Starfire and AN-TEN-NAE.

Bobby Tank - Vanquish

Vanquish

1. Bobby Tank - Needin Me
2. Bobby Tank - Vanquish
3. Bobby Tank - Plug
4. Bobby Tank - Vanquish (813 Remix)
5. Bobby Tank - Vanquish (Kid Kanevil Remix)
6. Bobby Tank - Vanquish (Jon Phonics Remix)
7. Bobby Tank - Vanquish (Darkhouse Family Remix)

London's Bobby Tank is a flag-bearing 80's icon, a mad astrophysicist, and a hip hop kid from the future, freshly fallen through a wormhole to our day and age.
He's recently dropped tunes on the Aisuru Compilation and the Finest Ego & Project Mooncircle Compilation. He has a forthcoming release on Prime Dubs and this, his debut EP, Vanquish.
The Bobby Tank sound is one of nostalgic synths repurposed for the present, complimenting soulful, blenderized cut-ups reminiscent of days to come. Delicately woven leads and atmospheres trickle down from the skies, tickling the ears with tantalizingly tasteful treble, while thick pulsing bass will shake that ass like a coked-up stripper at a Miami club, circa 1983.
This release comes replete with a gamut of remixes of the title track: 813's dope Dubstep lick; Kid Kanevil's seductive 808 mix; Jon Phonics smooth space funk refix and Darkhouse Fam's fresh wonk-hop version.

Phokus - Time

Time

Phokus is a central part of Hamburg's bass music scene.
Drum and Bass was his first love; he began DJing in 2001 and producing shortly after. Before long, Phokus found DnB getting harder and evolving away from the sound he grew up on. And from there, with the birth of Dubstep following soon after, Phokus found his passion for bass music revived.
2007 saw Phokus' first Dubstep release on MG77 Recordings. Since then, he has played all over Germany and done remixes for Jazzsteppa and Spillsbury.
2007 also saw the birth of WobWob!, Hamburg's Dubstep monthly which has played host to all kinds of local and international talent. The past few years have seen Phokus and the rest of the WobWob! crew playing and booking for Germany's annual Fusion Festival.

The title track of this release, Time, is a crisp stepper laden with dark atmospherics and multi-timbral bass hooks. The Drum and Bass influences are clear, but this tune steers clear of the ubiquitous Brostep sound. Zeno provides a psychedelic take on the piece, with a filtered midrange and arppegiated hooks that may lend itself to be called PsyStep.
The flip side of this release, Untitled, also starts off with Drum and Bass influences, but drops into a less traditional take on the Dubstep sound. The thick bass feels driven by the upbeat snares, while the melodic arps give the tune soul. Remixes on this one by The Next, with a harder, more wobble-oriented stepper and DFRNT with an ambient DnB version.
