BIOGRAPHY:
Boston's Vermin Street Arts and Media is a record label, an artists' collective, a highly respected party production team, and a think-tank focused on improving and accommodating all of the electronica sounds that are just too out there for the local club scene.
The label's artists work hard to stretch the foundational sounds of hip-hop, techno, drum n' bass, and ambient music, looking towards the future by fusing these styles with an experimental edge. With their sounds grounded in older, more pop-oriented styles, they have welcomed with open arms the newer, more abstract sounds of bass music, post-rave, glitch, and breakcore.
The label Vermin Street was founded by Junglist and party engineer, Nick "Vinyl Blight" Colangelo, along with NoraJean McCarthy, herself well practiced in bringing art-centric experimental electronic events to Boston, computer noise force, Niel "So So Gutter" Ballard and internationally-acclaimed activist and visual artist Peter "Zebbler" Berdovsky, whom you may remember from the Aqua Teen Hunger Force "terrorism" debacle, in which l.e.d guerilla advertisements posted up around the the Greater Boston Area were sadly mistaken for i.e.d weapons.
Good friends of the Vermin Street label include DJ C, a Bostonian ex-pat via Chicago who's been getting international attention for his brand of genre-mashing, continent crossing, bass-heavy party jams, and Dev/Null, a dedicated Bostonian known around the globe for his innovations in the world of full-metal, 230 bpm breakcore anthems.
Both artists have avidly collaborated in Vermin Street events and will be releasing tracks under the Vermin Street Label.
Other friends of the label include: the San Francisco based “Dubsalive”, a Dubstep label focused on combing live instrumentation with electronic dance music; Mochipet of Daly City Records in San Fransisco; Dred Bass pioneer Kush Arora; and Boston based Mr. Matt of Terravita/Hot Pink Delorean infamy.
As a party institution, Vermin Street coordinates events, private and public, club-oriented and otherwise, to showcase some of Boston's most imaginative, high energy, crowd-slaying DJs and live electronic acts in a number of venues across the Greater Boston Area.
Rising from the Boston Burner community, the Vermin have become known for their inventive coupling of sights and sounds, their ability to pair sonic experiences with unbelievable sight-specific installations like complex light-rigs, ball pits, and oversized LED boards.
